Provo City to Offer Expanded Hours Residents to Benefit from New City Hours: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday/Thursday
Provo, Utah Provo City Officials announced that Provo residents will soon be able to access city services every Monday through Thursday, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. City offices will be closed on Fridays. Under the schedule, residents will be able to conduct their business with city offices at times that are convenient to them as well as allow Provo employees more time to spend with their families. Expanded hours will not impact city services such as fire and police protection, the Provo City Library at Academy Square, the Provo Rec Center, Veterans Pool, Eldred Senior Center, Teen Center, Provo City Cemetery, and Compost Yard.
Expanded Hours have already been adopted by other Utah cities including West Valley City, Lehi, and American Fork. Comments from residents and employees in those cities have been very favorable.
Along with expanded hours, the City is establishing a Provo City Call Center to provide Provo citizens with a clearing house for information and problem resolution regarding city services. One phone number, 852-6000, will provide residents with assistance for city issues and concerns. Those needing emergency services will still dial 911. The call center will also provide a tracking system for monitoring types of concerns and followup steps taken. Provo City's Helpline is open Monday - Friday, 5:30 AM - 10:30 PM; Saturday, 7:00 AM - 8:00 PM. Utility service calls after the regular call center hours and on Sundays are handled through an automated call center system and after hours staff. This service is an enhancement of a system already utilized to deal with calls on items such as power outages and utility hookups and turn offs.
Also, people needing to register for traffic school or pay a parking fine or ticket will be able to do so 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at the Provo Police Department, 48 South 300 West.
"There are many reasons to test expanded hours in Provo," Provo Human Resources Director, Eric Mausser said. "Along with allowing citizens to conduct city business before or after their work day, we hope to enhance employee morale, eliminate Friday commutes and help reduce car emissions and traffic congestion as well as saving thousands of dollars in operating expenses annually," he concluded.
