Part-time Seasonal Positions

Number of Positions: Eight (8) to Ten (10)
Essential Duties: These positions are Adult Slow-pitch Softball Umpires for the Provo Parks & Recreation Department. The appointed applicants are required to umpire slow-pitch softball games, maintain control of assigned games, and assist in minor field maintenance as needed. Additionally, employees will be required to assist office staff as needed and perform other related duties.
Minimum Requirements: Knowledge of slow-pitch softball rules, penalties, and hand signals which would demonstrate an ability to perform the job; and the physical ability needed to perform the duties of the job. Preference will be given to those with previous umpiring experience. Please list your sports experience in the certifications section of the application.
Selection Factors: Knowledge of applicable softball rules, job-related experience, and public relations skills. Skill in performing duties in a manner that demonstrates respect, integrity, courtesy, and kindness towards fellow workers, customers, and the general public. Ability to maintain control of teams, coaches, and players; and resolve conflict.
Hours: Weeknights 6:00 PM-10:00 PM and occasional Saturdays for tournaments. Schedule may vary depending on department need.
Wage: Umpires: $19.00/hr. Payment will be made by direct deposit.
Duration of Position: Approximately July 31, 2017, to mid-October 2017.
Screening: Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job-related experience, skills, knowledge, and education. Selection may be based largely upon an oral interview. Criminal background checks are conducted on all City positions. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal.
Physical/Environmental Factors: This work requires physical strength and agility to perform the work including: minor bending and lifting; the ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions; and working with the public in sometimes stressful situations.
