Part-time Regular Position

Essential Duties: This is a position assisting in the technical area for the Covey Center for the Arts. The individual hired for this position will be required to perform the following duties: run lighting and sound equipment, and performance lighting or sound designs as required; load and unload trucks with theatrical equipment, props, sets, etc.; help with set construction; be a member of running crews for live performances; perform care and maintenance of stage equipment; perform backstage custodial tasks as needed; help in other areas of the building as needed; and perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent. Preference will be given to applicants who have training or experience working in a professional theatrical environment. Preference will also be given to applicants with experience in setting up and running sound and lighting equipment.
Selection Factors: Familiarity with diverse theatrical and construction equipment including power tools, rigging, lighting, and sound equipment; and previous experience running theatrical events. Skill in performing duties in a manner that demonstrates respect, integrity, courtesy, and kindness towards fellow workers, customers, and the general public. Ability to focus on and complete assigned tasks effectively and pay careful attention to detail.
License: Valid, lawful driver's license will be required at time of appointment. Applicant will be disqualified from driving for the City on the basis of an unacceptable driving record as reflected by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
Hours: Schedule varies, but will be Monday through Saturday, based on performance schedules. Long shifts may be required.
Wage: $9.50 per hour. Payment will be made by direct deposit.
Screening: Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job-related knowledge, experience, education, and/or training. Criminal background checks are conducted on all City positions. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal.
Physical/Environmental Factors: This work requires walking; sitting; standing; bending; reaching; and lifting up to 70 pounds. It also requires being able to be in high places. Some events may include exposure to stressful situations.
Pre-employment Testing: Prior to appointment, applicants will be required to successfully pass a drug screening and background investigation. Individuals with unsatisfactory drug screening results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
