City Auctions Surplus Goods Online
Thursday, April 05, 2007 - 07:41 AM
For years, Provo City has auctioned the discarded vehicles, equipment, furniture, etc., with a local auction house. This was done once or twice a year. Now, with the use of the Internet, they are selling surplus items around the clock and generating approximately a 26% increase in revenue. Web-based company Public Surplus LLC, with headquarters in Provo, has been selected to auction off City owned equipment as well as former police evidence. Purchasing agent, David Huntsman said, “Until now, the City had to wait until its semi-annual auction to ship out the old equipment. In the past we were lucky to get a few thousand dollars for an ambulance at local auctions. Last year we sold two ambulances online for $35,000 each to a company from Louisiana. Our market has expanded greatly since going online.”
