GRANTS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can you give me a grant for housing?

This office solicits grants for city functions and does not have a budget to offer grants of any sort, including housing.

How do I find grants?

There are numerous sites on the Internet which announce grant application deadlines and additional information.  Each site is specific to the funder, whether it be Federal, State or private foundation funding. Become familiar with which funders would support your area and then research those sites. Internet search engines are very helpful in narrowing down the field of potential funders. A good start in available search engines is to go to:

http://www.searchengineshowdown.com/  where the legwork is done and search engines are ranked

Some sites to start with on how to use the Internet are:
http://www.sc.edu/beaufort/library
http://www.firstgov.com

Additional information on available grants in usually provided in professional journals or magazines, or in "by subscription" periodicals.

How do I write a grant?

There are various sites on the Internet which give information on the parts of a grant and how to develop an application.

Some sites to start with are:
http://www.lcsc.edu/grantwriting
www.learnerassociates.net/proposal
www.proposalwriter.com
http://www.fdncenter.org/learn/shortcourse/propl.htm
www.grantstech.com

These formats generally fit a non-solicited grant application. While solicited applications will provide the format they prefer for the grant, much of the information on these sites will apply to the different sections of the solicited application.

Classes are also available from local colleges and universities.
