Healthy Neighborhoods

Healthy Neighborhoods is an intiative to help Provo neighborhoods become Neighborhoods of Choice. Neighbors can work together to recognize their assets, create a vision, develop a strategic plan for implementing their goas and measuring their successes. The Healthy Neighborhoods initiative gives residents the tools to build equity in their neighborhoods, both in their homes and in their social network. Stategies for building Healthy Neighborhoods center around four areas:

  • Image - Creating and maintaining a positive neighborhood image
  • Market - Sustaining and increasing homeowner's assets through a viable real estate market
  • Appearance - Maintaining good physical conditions and high standards for property maintenance
  • Connected - Strong social connections and investment of "social capital" in the neighborhood
Neighborhoods decline when people stop investing not only their money and resources but also their time and energy. Healthy neighborhoods are places where it makes sense for residents to invest their time, effort and money and where neighbors are willing and able to manage everyday community issues.

The Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative is a neighborhood driven approach where the vision, goals and implementation are determined by the neighborhood.  The Provo Municipal Council Neighborhood Program and the Provo City Redevelopment Agency provide assistance to neighborhoods through:
  • Healthy Neighborhoods Visioning Training
  • Develop Neighborhood Action Plans with neighborhoods that have completed Visioning Training
  • Municipal Council Neighborhood Program grants
  • Advocates for the Healthy Neighborhood program and philosophy
  • Partnerships with local non-provits for neighborhood projects to support positive neighborhood image
  • Home buyers incentives
  • Measuring Outcomes with neighborhoods
