The Provo Municipal Council created the Provo City Youth Government (PCYG) in 1992 to encourage youth to take an active part in their community. Members of PCYG, who attend any of Provo's high schools, plan and coordinate community service projects, participate in youth conferences, conduct legislative research, and "shadow" city and community leaders. This affords the youth an opportunity to gain greater understanding of local government and develop essential leadership skills required for success in their academic and professional careers. The prime objectives of the Provo City Youth Government are:
To provide meaningful community service on a regular basis.
To involve youth in government affairs on the local, state, and federal levels.
To provide leadership training and prepare youth for academic and professional careers.
