    Community Outreach Day
    Tuesday, January 15, 2008 - 04:36 PM
Community Outreach Day has been a yearly tradition at BYU since January 2000. It began as an effort to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. and the values that he taught. Martin Luther King Jr. was a great example to all Americans of the values of service and sacrifice for others. Community Outreach Day's goal is to promote Martin Luther King Day as a “day on and not a day off” for service because, as Dr. King said, "Everyone can be great because everyone can serve." Please take this opportunity to help carry on the legacy of service left by Dr. King and serve those around you.

This year's event will be taking place in the Wilkinson Student Center Ballroom of the BYU campus here in Provo. Registration will begin and a light breakfast will be served at 9 am, followed by a short devotional at 9:30 p.m. featuring Scott Petersen, CEO of Best Vinyl, as well as Bryan Kehl, one of the Cougar football players. At 10 a.m. volunteers will disperse for one of 21 service projects, with half being on campus and half spread around the community. Transportation will be available. Everything should be concluded by 12:30 p.m.

This is a great opportunity to go beyond your normal circle of friends and impact others. Please address questions and requests for information to Jake Mattinson at jmattinson@hotmail.com.
