BusinessWeek Magazine in a Special Report – Best Cities for Entrepreneurs named Provo, Utah as a prime site for entrepreneurial activity. The article notes Provo’s scenic beauty, competitive tax rates, affordable homes, low crime rates, and the city’s investment in fiber-optic infrastructure that will allow widespread high speed Internet access for residents and businesses as being contributing factors in Provo’s selection as a top spot for entrepreneurs.
The article takes a close look at the presence of Brigham Young University and the influence of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints including the Church’s missionary program as key factors in Provo’s flourishing small business community. Mayor Lewis Billings acknowledges, “BYU just draws an incredible faculty and student body, and we’ve seen numerous businesses spin out of it.”
