Provo City Portfolio Companies among the “Top 25 Under Five” Award Winners
    Wednesday, August 01, 2007 - 08:30 AM

Seven Provo-based companies–Agel, BEKO & Associates, Renasis, Rocketship, RockWell, Seastone and Your Home Advocate–were recognized in the Utah Valley Entrepreneurial Forum’s Top 25 Businesses Less than 5 Years Old Award Program. This program recognizes successful entrepreneurial companies along the Wasatch Front that are less than five years old. Competing companies are judged based on profit, growth, equity funding, job creation and job quality.

Of the Provo businesses recognized, three of them--BEKO & Associates, Renasis and RockWell-- are companies who have received early financing and support from the Business Development Corporation of Provo (BDC), a non profit sponsored by the City of Provo’s Economic Development/Redevelopment Department.

The Provo Business Development Corporation offers small business loan financing for entrepreneurial businesses in Provo. In addition, members and staff of the BDC offer mentoring for these new businesses, and help connect them with additional financing options, potential local suppliers and customers, and educational and training resources. And BDC portfolio companies also participate in the monthly BDC Xcelerator, a forum where these entrepreneurs meet, share ideas, network, and spend time with local business experts in building strength and capability within their businesses.

In other words . . . “The Business Development Corporation of Provo is a small business growth accelerator which helps early stage companies accelerate access to money, markets and mentors. We make it a point to seek out the most promising entrepreneurs and seeing what we can do to help them grow with our bottom-line being nothing more than seeing quality jobs created in the local community. We also provide directly a small amount of early stage funding,” adds Roger Andrus, BDC’s Executive Director.

“We are proud of these superb businesses in our community, and we are excited that the BDC could be part of their success story,” commented Mayor Lewis K. Billings. “We look forward to working with them and other local entrepreneurs as they build on this excellent foundation laid by the Business Development Corporation.”
