Provo Public School District received a "Gold Medal" from Expansion Management Magazine and was named one of the top 100 school districts in the nation by Offspring , a magazine from the editors of the Wall Street Journal. It is apparent that we value education and it is a priority at an early age in our community. With average ACT scores of 22.4, above the national average of 20.8, quality education is working in Provo. An impressive $901,798 was awarded in scholarships to Provo students during the 2001-2002 school year.
Provo is home to one of the country’s largest private universities with 59,637 students representing 100 countries in 2009. Brigham Young University is third-best in the nation in terms of value for each tuition dollar, according to rankings in a April of 2005 book by the Princeton Review. BYU continues to receive national recognition for both its undergraduate and graduate programs. U.S. News & World Report ranks BYU's Marriott School of Management and the J. Reuben Clark Law School in the top 40 in the country. The Chronicle of Higher Education, July 2002, recognized BYU as the best in the nation at turning research dollars into inventions and new companies. Seventy-five percent of the student body speaks a second language and during any given semester, roughly twenty-five percent of the student body may be enrolled in language courses—a rate three times the national average. BYU is renowned for its foreign language and linguistic training, offering courses in 67 different languages. BYU is also the headquarters of the National Middle East Language Resource Center.
Also within Utah County is Utah Valley University with an enrollment of 27,000 students and offering both degree and trade programs. There are also a variety of technical schools in the area that teach everything from certification as a helicopter pilot to medical and dental professional training. Whatever an employer is looking for it is available as students of various training and academic levels prepare to join a hard working, well qualified, enthusiastic work force.
