Operations
Apparatus and Equipment | Hazardous Materials | Special Operations | Wildland
Our primary role is to provide for emergency medical services, fire and injury prevention, fire suppression, hazardous materials response, special operations including various technical rescue operations, and public education along with other duties to protect and render aid.
Our firefighters are highly trained and skilled technicians. Department members hold certifications from the State of Utah as Paramedics, Apparatus Driver Operators, Fire Instructors, Fire Officers, Fire Inspectors, Emergency Medical Technicians, Hazardous Material Technicians, and several additional areas of expertise.
The operations side of Provo Fire and Rescue concerns itself with maintaining an advanced state of readiness at all times. This includes training, safety, apparatus, buildings, controlling a 6.5 million dollar budget, even down to the level of ensuring that liquids are available to keep our firefighters adequately hydrated at the scene of a fire.
We are asked to meet local, state and national standards for response and delivery of services. NFPA 1710 requires that we respond responsibly to 90% of our calls within a rather short time frame. With the opening of Fire Station 5 in the southeast area of the City, we will be able to meet this standard and provide consistent coverage to all the citizens within our community.
We were excited and prepared to "Welcome the World" as Provo hosts Men’s and Women’s Hockey as part of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. Provo Fire and Rescue received support from everyone in our great City in upgrading apparatus, building a new station and receiving the latest in advanced training. We would like to thank everyone who helps us to help you.
If we can assist you, provide information, give a tour, teach a class, mitigate a hazard or even find someone who has expertise in an area you need help in, please feel free to call us. |
