Provo City

Training

Training at Provo Fire and Rescue has taken on a whole new look. Training is now lead by Battalion Chief Jeremy Craft. The vision of the training department is to build a great basic foundation of skills and knowledge from which the department can grow. The fire service is very dynamic in nature and training must meet the ever changing needs of the public.

Provo Fire and Rescue has also put together a new training team. The team members are Captain Jeremy Headman, Captain Jeff Wise, andEngineer Craig Olson. These individuals bring a wealth of knowledge and passion to the team.

Recently, the training team has been able to acquire some structures throughout the city that were slated for demolition. These structures will be used to achieve some of the training goals for 2010. In March, a structure was used to sharpen skills in the areas of search and rescue, as well as vertical ventilation.

The remaining structures will be used for Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) training, forcible entry, and live fire training. It is the opinion of the training team, that live structures are an invaluable tool for training in the fires service. The
training team will also be offering classes on defensive driving, building construction, Fire Inspector I, ADO, ADOA, and firefighter survival through out the year.
