The Provo Fire Department is a seventy-seven member paid department. Sixty-nine are shift personnel.

The Mission Statement for the Provo Fire Department is "To Provide Professional Quality Service with Dedication and Pride." The Department serves as both a public safety organization and an emergency medical provider, and provides the following services: fire suppression, fire investigation, fire prevention and public education programs, hazardous material’s response, rescue, code enforcement, emergency medical response and transport with paramedic services, and emergency and disaster planning and training.

In December of 1999, the Provo Fire Department went from an ISO rating of 4 to an ISO rating of 3. Training continues to be an ever increasing need of the Department. Changes in technology require us to continue to attend classes and training. Firefighters, EMTs, and Paramedics are required to complete additional training each year to keep state and national certifications. Our department now requires ADO for Engineers and Acting Engineers and Officer I for all Officers.

Several of our firefighters are members the Mountain Rescue/Special Operations Team performing technical rescues. We have a mutual aid agreement with surrounding fire departments to provide EMS, Fire, and Hazardous Materials response, and a Fire Service Interlocal Cooperation Agreement with Utah County. The Department was recently reevaluated by the FAA in its ability to respond and deal with emergencies involving aircraft at the Provo Airport. This testing measures response times and ability to reach a certain position on the runway, firefighting foam flow rates, and percentage of foam delivery and aircraft training records to meet the FAA’s part 139 certification.

Provo hosted the Women and Men’s Hockey Venue for the 2002 Winter Olympics. Members were involved in attending venue planning meetings and preparing for the challenge of covering fire and EMS responsibilities.

The Provo Fire Department is actively involved with public education. We provide on site station tours for groups of all ages. Our Fire Safety Trailer is utilized at elementary schools, the Open House for Fire Prevention Week, safety fairs, and fire safety classes. CPR classes are taught for the community once a month. We are involved in teaching CERT courses to residents of our community.
