Health Insurance Portability and Accountability ActProvo Fire & Rescue started in the EMS business in the early 1960’s. At that time, the ambulances were staffed by
firefighters or “ambulance attendants”. With no formal training, these firefighters provided service to the citizens of Provo. In 1970, Provo acquired a new ambulance and this enabled the City to provide 24-hour ambulance service.

When everyone was watching "Roy and Johnny" save lives on TV, Provo Fire was sending its own members to Paramedic school. In the mid 70’s, Provo started providing Paramedic service and to this day, continues to provide and improve emergency medical response to the community.
Provo Fire & Rescue has 5 fully-staffed Paramedic Rescues that are in service 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. Current staffed EMS personnel consist of 66 Paramedics and 5 EMTS. Provo Fire & Rescue follows all of Utah State’s Bureau of EMS guidelines to keep current with training and certification.

With such a diverse community, Provo’s Paramedics encounters a variety of calls from traffic accidents to medical problems, baby deliveries to specialized rescues. They are also involved in community safety by teaching monthly CPR and quarterly CERT classes.
