Provo Fire and Rescue's hazardous response personnel adhere to the mission of the department to provide professional quality service with dedication and pride. The hazardous materials response team is comprised of Officers and Firefighters alike, who have dedicated their time to extensive training and additional responsibility of hazmat mitigation and technical response. They do this with no additional compensation, other than the satisfaction of knowing the citizens of Provo receive the finest and most professional service in today's world.
To safely accomplish this goal, all team members are required to have and maintain a working knowledge in the following areas: 
- The National Incident Management System (NIMS)
- Tactics and mitigation strategies and techniques
- Technical documents and reference materials
- Use of complex scientific monitoring equipment
- Specialized chemical protective clothing
- Specialized tools
- Evidence collection and preservation
- Emergency Medical procedures
- Chemistry
Provo Fire and Rescue's Hazmat Team provides service to surrounding communities and Utah County. Squad One, is a 2001 Pierce dedicated to Special Operations. It is a equipped for extractions day or night, confined space, and high angle rescue and hazmat response.
The vehicle has an office for planning strategies along with a fridge for cooling vests and hydratrion fluids. There is a computer station for plotting movement of toxic gases, TV monitor for live feed camera used in entry to hazardous environments with thermal imagery, and a library of reference materials.
This vehicle carries a complement of hazmat equipment for decon, entry and hazardous materials identification, as well as a high pressure compressor for the filling of breathing air bottles. Additional equipment is transported in two specialized response trailers. |
