Open Burning

Provo City Code prohibits open burning, however, burning conducted as part of an agricultural or horticultural operation is permitted. Open burning may be conducted:
• On property zoned and designated as agricultural on the Provo City Zoning Map; and
• Incidental to agricultural or horticultural operations; and
• Only when materials burned are restricted to pruning from trees, bushes, and plants; dead or diseased trees, bushes, and plants, including stubble; or
• To control weed growth along ditch banks or incidental to clearing ditches for irrigation purposes.

Provo Fire & Rescue does not issue permits to burn. Recreational fires are not considered open burning and may be conducted in accordance with the Provo City Code and International Fire Code.
ALL OTHER OPEN BURNING IS PROHIBITED.
Provo City is committed to air quality by complying with the Utah Air Conservation Act. Air quality can be adversely affected by products of combustion from open burning. Trash or rubbish of any kind, construction or demolition materials or debris, and trees or other plant materials accumulated from land clearing for development may not be burned.
