Current Hazard Level

As a result of last year’s Springville Fire, areas of the South Provost neighborhood are threatened by a heightened risk of debris flow, similar to those that occurred last fall in Santaquin.  In an effort to keep citizens informed, Provo has recorded an area condition message at 852-6328 and will update as conditions change. Provo has also established a hazard level system by which residents can gauge their relative risk and adjust their personal response plans.  The hazard levels will be posted as a colored flag at Springcreek School and are as follows:

BLUE

Moderate to heavy rain likely.

  • Review and practice the family emergency preparedness plan, have relocation place on file with block captains who will update the Neighborhood Chair.
  • Have 72 hr kits accessible and mobile to be quickly taken in the event of an evacuation.

YELLOW

RAWS alarm received, over 1/10 inch of rain in 15 minutes.

  • Preparations to evacuate should be completed.
  • 72 hr kits should be stored in whichever vehicle will be used to evacuate.
  • Vehicle to be used for evacuation should be parked facing the street for quicker evacuation time.

ORANGE

Ongoing moderate to heavy rain and/or saturated soil conditions, increasing risk.

  • Residents are advised to stay out of basements.
  • High risk homes advised to prepare for evacuation.
  • Consider placing stockpiled sandbags at appropriate locations.
