Thank you for visiting the Official Site of Provo City, Utah. The Provo City website, www.provo.org is provided as a service to the citizens of Provo and to the general public. By accessing or using the site, or information, materials and data contained within the site, the user agrees to accept the following terms and conditions.
Purpose
Provo City provides this website as a public service to provide information about Provo City government, services, and events. The city reserves the right to determine what information shall and shall not be placed on this website and what manner that information shall be displayed or presented. This website is not a public or limited public forum. Provo City maintains this website for the exclusive use of the City in communicating matters of general public interest.

City Calendar
The Provo City calendar is a service offered as part of the official Provo City website. The purpose of the city calendar is to provide a central location for website visitors to easily access information, dates and times of city meetings, holidays, City sponsored or co-sponsored events, and city department activities and programs.
The city calendar is designed to be a service to website users. The city calendar is not a public forum or community calendar. Calendar items are considered web site content and thus subject to approval by the website cooridnator , with dispute resolution resting with the Chief Administrative Officer.
From time to time, categories may change as staff finds and identify new calendar item categories or finds that existing categories are obsolete. To the best of the ability of city staff, calendar items are correct and timely. However, the city calendar is not intended to serve as official public notice of meetings or events and therefore Provo City is not responsible for incorrect information posted to the calendar. Users should confirm information regarding events with the appropriate city department.
Internal Policies
Provo continues to receive recognition as one of the best places in the United States to live and do business. The Provo City website should reflect a community spirit and quality image. The website should project a professional image and reflect the quality of life that is synonymous with Provo. In order to maintain this professional image we have established policies that will maintain a consistent look and feel for the website.
Content Management
It is the responsibility of each department to keep the information on their pages current and accurate. This includes maintaining links and promptly fixing broken links when notified. Pages that are not completed should not be published on the site as "Under construction."
Images and Graphics
All images should be placed in your department image folder. The root directory will be cleared on a regular basis and any department images on the root directory will be deleted. When this occurs the link to your image will be broken and it will be the responsibility of the department to correct the link and place the image in the proper department directory.
Pictures and graphics placed on the web should be compressed to ensure quicker downloads. There are two standards for compressed images on the web: GIF and JPEG. GIF compression should be used for graphics that have a small number of colors such as logos and type. JPEG compression is useful for pictures that require a larger variety of color. JPEG images that are highly compressed will lose detail and become pixilated.
Documents posted on the website must be in a format readily available and free to the general public. It is recommended that documents to be used as public documents and for public access be in PDF format. PDF is a recognized standard for documents and is free online. All PDF’s should be compressed for web download as you would any image.
Do not use pictures or graphics that are owned by another person without their expressed written consent. Royalty free images that are purchased may be used. Do not use corporate logos of other companies without permission.
Flash animations and other forms of multimedia may be used with the approval of . Clip art will not be allowed on the Provo website. If you have a question about whether a graphic is considered a clip art submit it for approval to the city’s graphic design person.
Whether cutting and pasting content or creating PDF’s, prior to placing content on the website please spell check all content. There is not a spell check function on stargov. Also, proofread and check for spelling errors prior to publishing each time changes are made to a page. Spelling errors will reflect on the image of Provo City.
Permissions
Permission for content management assignments within a department will be granted on a department basis. Passwords should not be shared with others to maintain the security of the Provo City website. Interns can be granted access permission as determined by individual department directors. All new users permissions will be established through the IS Department.
ADA Compliance
It is required by law that our site is in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. This requires that alt tags (a short description of the image) be used appropriately on all images. Alt tags are read by screen reader software describing the image to the visually impaired.
Business Module
The business directory module is for the sole use of those businesses licensed to do business within Provo City. This is a tool to promote Provo businesses by providing information to the citizens of Provo thus encouraging citizens to support local businesses.
The city will provide the basic business information based on business license information. A business can provide additional information to be available on the website including logos, maps, descriptions of products and business information. All information must be provided either electronically or on a CD and all graphics must be provided as a JPEG or GIF. Information for the website can be submitted at the time of application for a business license. A business may request to update their information yearly at the time of the renewal of their business license. Only Provo City staff will access and update the information on the website and the staff has the right to determine if information is in compliance with all Provo City website Policies. Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate will not be posted in compliance Provo City’s Code of Conduct.
