LIFEGUARD/WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR

Essential Duties: These are certified lifeguarding and swimming instructor positions in the Aquatics Division of the Provo City Parks and Recreation Department. Employees appointed to these positions will be required to lifeguard and instruct water safety courses at the Veteran's Memorial Outdoor Pool and Waterslide Park and/or the Provo Recreation Center. Employees will maintain a visual watch of facility activities and swimmers, provide first aid and rescue when necessary, and teach basic red-cross sanctioned swimming courses. Additionally, employees will be required to assist the Aquatics Director and staff and perform other related work as required.
 
Minimum Requirements: Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certifica­tion and Red Cross WSI Certification. (WSI certification required only if employee is instructing swimming lessons.) Preference will be given to applicants with Lifeguarding Certification.  Applicant must be 18 years of age at time of appointment.
 
Wage: Lifeguarding wage: $8.00 per hour. WSI teaching wage: $9.00 per hour. Water Aerobics wage: $9.49 per hour. Payment will be made by direct deposit.
 
Selection Factors: Number of aquatics courses completed i.e. first aid, CPR, lifeguard training, & WSI, skills obtained from such courses, and previous aquatics-related experience.
 
Hours: Hours will vary. Flexible shifts.
 
Physical/Environmental Factors: This position requires: physical strength and agility to perform the work, including, rescuing, standing, bending, and swimming during instruction and safety assistance; the ability to work in various weather conditions; work with the public in possibly stressful situations; and exposure to the sun and pool chemicals.
 
Screening: Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job-related experience, skills, knowledge, and education. Criminal background checks conducted on all City positions. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal.
