    Part-time Seasonal Positions

    Number of Positions: Twelve (12) to Fourteen (14)


    Essential Duties: These are umpire and scorekeeper positions for the Provo City Parks and Recreation Department. The individuals appointed to these positions will be required to umpire baseball games, keep score, and assist in the administration of games. Additionally, employees will be required to assist office staff as needed and perform other related duties as required.


    Minimum Requirements: Knowledge of baseball rules, penalties, and hand signals which would demonstrate an ability to perform the job; and physical ability needed to perform the duties of the job.


    Selection Factors: Knowledge of baseball rules; ability to maintain control of teams, coaches, and players; and resolve conflict. Ability to work well with people.


    Wage: Umpires: $9.00 - $12.00 per hour. Scorekeepers: $7.50 per hour. Payment will be made by direct deposit.


    Hours: Flexible hours on weekday evenings between 4:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. and/or Saturdays between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.


    Duration of Position: Approximately May 1, 2008, to July 17, 2008.


    Screening: Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job-related experience, skills, knowledge, and education. Hiring for this position may be based largely upon an oral interview. Criminal background checks are conducted on all City positions. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal.


    Physical/Environmental Factors: This work requires that the individuals stand on their feet for the entire game and deal with the public in sometimes stressful circumstances.


    Pre-employment Testing: Prior to appointment applicant will be required to successfully pass a drug screening and background investigation. Individuals with unsatisfactory drug screening results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
