What is Traffic School All About?

Traffic school is a great option for citizens when they are resolving their moving violation ticket.

When citizens are given a moving violation, they have a few options on how to resolve it.  They can pay the fine amount which is established by the State Uniform Bail Schedule, they can speak with a hearing examiner if they wish to contest the matter, or if they qualify they can resolve it through traffic school.

If a citizen chooses the traffic school option, the citizen needs to appear in person at the Provo City Justice Court, located at 310 West Center, Monday - Friday from 8 am - 5 pm.  The reason citizens need to come in is so they can enter into a plea in abeyance agreement, which is the agreement that allows the ticket to be dismissed after they have met certain conditions.  The typical conditions are to pay a plea in abeyance fee, which is based on the violation, pay a traffic school fee and then complete the 90 minute traffic school course.  We accomodate all schedules by offering classes in the morning, evening and even on Saturday.  The class may also be taken online.

Those that attend traffic school will receive the benefit of having the charge dismissed which will keep points off of their driving record, as well as learn skills to become a better driver.

Officer Rorick is the warrants officer assigned to the justice court.  Part of his duties are to teach traffic school, and he does an excellent job.  In the Spring of 2009, we did a voluntary online survey of those who attended traffic school and Officer Rorick came in with very high praise.  Provo City Traffic School was also listed as the best traffic school in the valley by the January 2009 edition of Utah Valley Magazine.

Traffic school is packed with great information, and there are a lot of visual aides to help citizens remember the information they are taught.  This course is designed to help teach or remind citizens of driving laws so that they can become better drivers.

In September 2009, Provo Channel 17 did a segment called Traffic School Safety Tips that gives citizens a glimpse into Provo City Traffic School.
