Provo City

Employee Recognition

The following employees were given the Mayor’s Award of Excellence during the Mayor’s State of the City speech on January 16, 2003

DOUG ROBINS

Doug is one of the reasons why Provo City continues to progress even when the economy is struggling.

Budget Task Force. Doug served as the Chairman for the Parks and Recreation Budget Task Force in 2001.  He was instrumental in analyzing all budgets within the department and identifying over $100,00 that could be redistributed within the department to meet its new goals.

Turf Management Plan.  Doug spent considerable time visiting and talking to managers at Brigham Young University, Orem City, and several Municipalities in Salt Lake Valley.  With the information he gleaned he has developed a new turf management plan for Provo City Parks Division.  He has balanced the need for fertilizing, spraying pesticides, aerating, and Mowing.  This has included water-reducing principles necessary during the current drought years.

Forestry.  Doug has brought a wealth of experience to the forestry needs of Provo City.  He has served as the City Forester in past years, and now gives excellent leadership to the Parks Forestry Program which maintains all the trees in the city parks, canyon parks, and in and along all trails and natural park areas.

Landscaping. Doug has developed most of the current landscaping policies that are being used in the City of Provo.  He designed the current landscape template for roundabouts as an example to contractors. He has developed our current Sprinkler Design Specifications, which includes an efficient central control system.  He has considerable input in the landscape design of the I-15 corridor, 4800 North extension, and is currently working with the task force challenged to redesign and landscape 100 North, and 100 South.

Parks Maintenance. Doug very ably manages the Parks Maintenance Division.  With efficiency and thoroughness he has set up maintenance standards, playground inspections, safety training, park inspections, and coordinates setup and takedown for special events in the city such as: First Night, Freedom Festival, Pioneer Day, Flag Day, Veterans’ Day, Election Day and many others that come along without much notice.

We are fortunate to have such an enthusiastic, organized, and dedicated employee that is continually looking to improve himself, and serve those he comes in contact with.
