Provo Tabernacle Community Gathering

A fire destroyed most of the historic building on Friday, December 17, 2010. Provo firefighters were dispatched just before 3am to the Tabernacle, located on the corner of University Avenue and 100 South. The roof caved in around 6am. It took about 36 hours and around 1 million gallons of water to fully extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported.  Called an historic treasure, pioneers constructed the Provo Tabernacle from 1883-1898 at a cost of $100,000.  The building, which is a registered landmark, had been used for religious services, concerts, graduations and much more.  Provo City held a Community Gathering to remember the Tabernacle on Sunday, December 19, 2010.  Thanks to everyone who helped during this emergency.
