Meet Mayor Curtis
Mayor John R. Curtis took office on January 5, 2010, bringing with him extensive business and public service experience. Prior to serving as mayor, he worked as the Executive Vice President for Action Target, Inc., a Provo based company which provides firearm training and products to police departments and military bases throughout the United States. For two years prior to taking office, he also served as Chief Operating Officer for Corporate Alliance. As a businessman, John is known as a person who can bring people together. His "get it done" attitude has earned him numerous awards from his previous employers including OC Tanner, Brazil International, and Citizen Watch Company.
John has also served on a number of community and advisory boards including the Provo/Orem Chamber of Commerce, the Mountain Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Utah National Parks Council of the Boys Scouts of America, and the Utah Valley Healthcare Foundation. In addition, he and his wife Sue founded the Organization for Civic Involvement, whose purpose is to inform citizens and get them involved in civic causes. The organization has registered over 3,000 local voters and sponsored numerous forums and other activities.
John earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business management from Brigham Young University in 1985. He and Sue were high school sweethearts and have been married for over 27 years. They have six children and can often be found cheering from the sidelines at one of their children's sporting events. In addition, John enjoys riding motorcycles, hiking, scouting, skiing, water skiing, backpacking, scuba diving, and boating.
