The Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce substantial improvements to the Provo City Gun Range, located 3 mles up Squaw Peak Road in Provo Canyon.
A new 30 yard rifle shooting range has been constructed with four firing positions. The adult range has been lengthened to a full 100 yards and the pistol range has been expanded to a total of 20 positions at 50 yards.
All the firing lines are now covered with a roof for a more comfortable shooting environment. Additional improvements will include concrete benches, rifle racks and concrete floors.
The Provo City Rifle and Pistol Range, located on Squaw Peak Road, is available year round for public daytime use. Walk-in use is prohibited! Open Shooting hours are listed below. For times outside of the Open Shooting, a key may be checked out at the Provo Parks and Recreation Office for a $10 reservation fee, per time period, in addtion to a $250 refundable deposit (cash or credit card). The Office is open Monday - Thursday. If you wish to use a key on Friday or Saturday, it must be picked up on Thursday. The key is due back the next business day by 10 a.m. Office location is 351 West Center in the main City Center, located in the south west corner of the basement. Reservations can be made over the phone with a credit card. Patrons using the rifle and pistol ranges need to bring their own targets. Do not shoot glass bottles, TV sets, computer hardware, propane bottles, potatoes, pumpkins, telephone books, etc. If you pack it in to shoot at, pack it out and dispose of it in your own garbage can. The Shotgun Range is operated by the Provo Gun Club. For many years the Provo Gun Club was just a trap shooting facility. With the addition of Sporting Clays in the late 1990’s, Skeet in 2000 and a 5 stand facility in 2001, the Provo Gun Club is the most versatile gun club in Utah. They are open to the public for shooting:
Wednesdays: 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
In addition to these days, the gun club will be open Saturdays for 5 stand and Sundays for 50 bird trap competition.
For additional information on competition, instruction, large group usage, scheduling, or gun rental, call: 801-437–0595 or 801-766-2651 or check their website at myprovogunclub.com
