
The mission of the Provo Parks and Recreation Department is to enhance the quality of life for all Provo City residents by providing play areas, ball fields, green spaces, trails, wholesome entertainment and fun recreation programs that promote health, fitness, education, cultural awareness, sportsmanship, relationships and appreciation of the outdoors for those of all abilities and ages. The Parks and Recreation Department concentrates on providing a variety of recreational opportunities for youth and adults in the areas of sports, classes, cultural arts, special events, aquatics and senior services as well as upkeep and maintenance of parks, natural areas, trees, ball fields, trails, cemetery and school grounds.
The Sports Division offers a wide variety of opportunities to participate in a new sport or your favorite past time. Our adult sports leagues include Winter and Summer Basketball, Flag Football, Spring and Fall Softball, Softball Tournaments, Volleyball and Tennis Lessons. Our youth sports leagues include Spring, Fall and Indoor Soccer; Basketball; Volleyball; Baseball/Softball; Track and Field; Cross Country; Flag Football; Wrestling; Tennis Lessons. Classes
In 2007, the Covey Center for the Arts opened its doors with the goal to educate, enrich, endow and entertain. The Covey Center’s 670-seat performance hall hosts the Mayor’s Series for the Performing Arts, which has presented performers ranging from Kenny Loggins and George Winston to events like Bye Bye Birdie and Thriller. The Brinton Black Box Theater seats 60, and is home to a series of plays and musicals. In addition to these performing spaces, the Covey Center also houses an art gallery, with exhibits that rotate monthly, and three dance studios. Most of these spaces are available for rent, and are much in demand by local performing groups. Special Events are a chance for you to participate in fun activities for the whole community. Watch your kids gather up eggs at the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Walk cautiously through the spooky maze at the Tricks and Treats Halloween Carnival. Try to win a turkey at the Dart the Turkey Thanksgiving Celebration. And ring in the new year under a shower of fireworks at First Night.
There are a variety of aquatic activities for people of all ages to enjoy year round. The Provo Recreation Center Pool is an indoor year round pool and the Veterans Memorial Pool is an outdoor seasonal pool. Swimming under the supervision of certified lifeguards is a safe and healthy activity that provides many fitness benefits and an enjoyable recreational experience. Aquatic activities include lap swimming, recreational swimming and diving, deep and shallow water aerobics, swimming and diving lessons for ages from 6 months to adults. Other aquatic events include Kids Day Out at the Pool, Family Fun Inflatable Swim Night, private pool parties and rentals for special occasions. All members of the community 55 years and older are invited to meet with friends at the Eldred Senior Center to enjoy socially enriching experiences, intellectual stimulation, physical fitness programs, educational opportunities, artistic fulfillment, a daily nutrition program (transportation available), health screening clinic, short tours, billiards, games, shuffleboard, library, television, assistance programs, and varied information and referral services.
Provo has over 40 city parks and many miles of trails. Our park system offers a wide variety of locations whether you are wanting to have a family picnic, challenge your friends to some Frisbee Golf or want to go for a hike up beautiful Provo Canyon, you should check out the Provo Parks. The Peaks Ice Arena has skating, futsal and hockey programs to suit any skater and athlete. The Peaks Ice Arena is a 2002 Olympic venue with two world class Olympic size ice rinks and two indoor futsal courts. The Peaks Ice Arena offers several activities to include public skating, birthday parties, private rentals, broomball, learn to skate, figure skating, futsal and ice hockey. The Peaks Ice Arena is home to the Peaks Figure Skating Club, several Utah County High School teams, the Utah Valley University hockey club, and the Brigham Young University hockey club.
