How to register with USA Hockey

 Regular Season Information:

After passing the Start Smart program the skater is now ready to join the Peaks Youth Hockey League, a recreation league for children ages 6-14. Recreational means the emphasis in on equal play, sportsmanship, and skill development. Standings are not posted and playoffs are not held to determine a champion. The league plays at the Peaks Ice Arena and as part of the Utah Recreational League  travels to arenas in Logan, Vernal, Kearns, Bountiful, and Park City. All practices are at the home arena with 1/2 of the games at home and 1/2 away. Games are held on Saturdays. Each team will have one to two practices a week. The days and times depends on the league and availabiltiy but are usually held on the same days every week.The season typically runs from September to March with registration beginning in August. The program is sanctioned by USA Hockey.  All games will be supervised by Provo City Parks & Recreation personnel. The program will be registered with USA Hockey and will be governed by USA Hockey rules. All officials scorekeepers and timers will be provided through the Provo City Parks & Recreation Division. The on-ice officials are members of the Wasatch Ice Hockey Officials Association and are contracted by Provo City Parks & Recreation to officiate Youth League games. Coaches Team Managers and Assistant Coaches are on a volunteer basis. Parents and Guardians are encouraged to participate in the program to help with the development and supervision of the players.
  • Each game will have a 1 hour time frame in which to be played.
  • Each game will begin with a 5-minute warm-up period followed by three 12-minute stop time periods.
  • There will be a 1 minute break between periods. The third period may be shortened if a game is behind schedule.
  • Players who commit minor penalties will be assessed a 1:30 penalty.
  • Major penalties will be assessed a 4:00 penalty. Misconduct penalties will be assessed an 8:00 penalty.
  • Gross Misconduct penalties require ejection from the game plus suspension for at least one additional game plus appearance before a panel of program administrators.

Dressing Rooms Rules and Ettiquette

  • Female siblings and/or friends are not permitted in boys' dressing rooms.
  • Male siblings and/or friends are not permitted in girls' dressing rooms.
  • Girls are not permitted to dress in boys' dressing rooms in any age division.
  • Separate dressing rooms for girls are available.
Provo City Parks & Recreation and the Peaks Youth Hockey League has implemented the STOP (Safety Towards Other Players) program. Each player will wear a STOP sign on the back of his/her jersey telling opponents they are in a potentially dangerous position and the opponent must stop and not make body contact.
