Retirement — The City of Provo participates in the Utah State Retirement system. An Officer may retire after 20 years of service.
Living within the City Limits — The City of Provo requires an officer to live within a 15 mile radius of the city with a 20 minute response time.
Shifts — The Patrol Division works four 10 hour shifts per week. Shift schedules for officers, sergeants and Lieutenants are based on a seniority shift bid and rotate every four months.
Car per Officer — The Provo Police has a car per officer program for officers living within Provo City boundaries. . Each officer is assigned a police vehicle. The vehicle is their responsibility to keep clean, in good working order, and fueled. If the vehicle does develop problems, the officer works with the city shops to have the vehicle repaired.
Computers in Car — Each car is equipped with a laptop computer. The officer is able to access the city computer as well as the State computer. Officers are able to do checks on License plates, Drivers Licenses, Warrants and other functions which the State computer system allows.
Calls for Service — The Provo Communications Center handles approximately 7,130 calls per month for a total of 91,267 calls for service per year.
