The Records Bureau consists of one supervisor, three assistant supervisors, and 11 office specialists.  These employees bring a combined total of over 140 years of experience and knowledge to the bureau.  The supervisor is responsible for compiling accurate crime statistics which are submitted to the Bureau of Criminal Identification and the Federal Bureau of Investigation on a monthly basis.  Data is also compiled and released as a Provo Police Annual Report

The office specialists main duties involve entering a large volume of data into the computer system consisting primarily of:

  • Police Reports
  • Traffic Accidents
  • Suspect and Witness statements

The officers dictate their reports by telephone into a transcription system for the Records Bureau Employees to transcribe.  The employees also prepare documents for the officers for court, fill subpoena requests, fill GRAMA requests, prepare reports for both the City and County Attorney, answer numerous questions for citizens, supply reports to other police and government agencies, as well as work closely with the officers and other city departments.

Reports that can be obtained through the Records Bureau consist of Traffic Accidents, some Incident/Crime Reports through the GRAMA Act and/or Subpoenas, Police Clearances, and Theft Letters to be used for insurance purposes.  Further information on each of these requests as well as fingerprinting and Traffic School Registration is listed below.
