Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker biked to Provo as a result of BYU winning the rivalry football game against the U of U.
Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker and Provo City Mayor Lewis Billings again challenged each other to a bike ride based on the outcome of the BYU v. U of U football game on Nov. 28. Both mayors used the Second Annual Rivalry Ride to encourage the public to contribute to the Utah and BYU alumni associations' rivalry food drive.
Since the Cougars won the game, Becker biked approximately 50 miles from the U of U Alumni House in Salt Lake City to the BYU Hinckley Center in Provo on December 5. Billings and several other cycle enthusiasts joined him.
The U of U is still counting food drive contributions, so the winner of the "Food Fight" is still unknown, but both schools are pleased with the results. BYU exceeded its goals of $50,000 and 140,000 pounds of food with a total of $52,107 and 162,318 pounds of food. That's up from $42,000 and 122,000 pounds of food last year.
The contributions made in Utah County will go to Community Action Services and Food Bank which serves Utah, Summit and Wasatch Counties.
