Opt-Out Recycling
Opt-Out Form | Sanitation Rate Schedule | Acceptable Recyclable Materials | Recycling FAQsOpt-Out Recycling
The Provo City Municipal Council has adopted an Opt-Out Recycling program with the goal of decreasing the amount of waste going into the landfill, lowering tipping fees we have to pay for waste disposal, and increasing the amount of waste being recycled.
Beginning October 31, 2011, everyone who has Provo City residential garbage collection and is not already participating in the curbside recycling program or opted out of the program by September 9, 2011, will automatically have curbside recycling service added.
In addition to those listed above, there are many benefits to recycling, and Provo City has enhanced the household recycling program by making it easier than ever for you to participate. So easy, in fact, that you don't need to do anything to "sign up". Unless you opt out, you will be delivered a recycling container and schedule in October, and this service will automatically start on the same day as your regular garbage service beginning October 31, 2011, or November 7, 2011, depending on which service schedule you are on. The cost will be $4.75 per month.
In order to encourage recycling, if you participate in either the household (blue) recycling program or the yard waste (green) recycling program, the price of each black garbage container will only be $12.50 per month, $2 less than the regular rate as of November 1, 2011. See Sanitation Rate Schedule.
In order to help sustain our landfill and natural resources, we encourage everyone to participate in our recycling efforts.
For residents who have just moved in and would rather not recycle, the opt-out form can be filled out and sent to Provo City Utilities, 251 W 800 N, Provo UT 84604, or by calling the Provo City Help Desk at (801) 852-6000.
Current recycling information including which schedule you are on, acceptable recyclable materials, etc. can be viewed on another page.
