Revitalize Provo’s Central Business District

The Redevelopment Agency is charged primarily with undertaking programs and projects to revitalize Provo’s central business district (CBD) and the surrounding central-city neighborhoods. With the power to undertake tax increment financing as granted by the State Legislature, the Redevelopment Agency also sometimes is called upon to do tax increment financing for economic development projects outside of the CBD and central neighborhoods.

What the Redevelopment Agency does to revitalize Downtown follows the vision and action plan formulated through the Agency's "Center Focus" Downtown strategic planning effort.  (link to Center Focus)  A wide range of Downtown stakeholders are now organized to work at carrying out the objectives, strategies, and specific work items called out by Center Focus.  Through this highly-collaberative effort, sustained over several years, we are systematically chipping away at projects, large and small, which ultimately will bring fulfillment of the Center Focus vision.

Blade Sign Grants

Projecting or "blade" signs are used along pedestrian-oriented streets to ientify attached or closely spaced shops, restaurants, and service businesses.

The Provo City Council has approved amendments to the City's zoning regulations which are intended to forster revitalization in downtown.  Among these amendments is a change to sign regulations to allow for blade signs on the fronts of buildings.  These signs will assist pedestrians in downtown Provo to better identify the businesses as they walk down the street.

The grant program is available on a first-come, first-serve basis for a limited time to qualifying businesses.  Read the brochure for more information.
