From the mountaintops to the lake, nature provides abundant recreational opportunities.  Provo Canyon opens the gateway to every snow sport in the winter, and summer hiking and biking. Bike trails follow the Provo River, from the Canyon to Utah Lake.  City Parks, throughout the city play host to casual play as well as organized sport activities.

 

 

Provo is the site of one of the biggest Fourth of July celebrations in the State of Utah. America’s Freedom Festival at Provo offers events that range from hot air balloon races, baseball tournaments, firework displays to the Awards Gala with presentation of the Freedom Award to honored guests. Through the Festival individuals, families, and neighborhoods have an opportunity to remember the patriotic traditions upon which our country was founded.

Fifteen minutes from Provo, Sundance is a trend setting winter and summer resort owned by Robert Redford.  During the winter, Sundance is one of the most affordable, less populated ski resorts in Utah.

 

During summer months hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking make Sundance a prime destination for day-trippers or those who want to rent one of the many chalets and stay a few weeks.  Sundance is also the home to a children’s theater and an open-air theater where professionals actors entertain you surrounded by the beautiful aspen groves of Mount Timpanogos.

Sundance is the home of the world renowned Sundance Film Festival.  The Sundance Film Festival gives young movie makers the opportunity to show their innovative new ideas in moviemaking.  The festival draws actors, producers, directors and movie lovers to Utah

Less than five minutes from downtown Provo you will find Utah Lake State Park.  This beautiful wildlife estuary provides summer campers with the opportunity to water ski and jet ski on the huge freshwater lake.  With winter mountain run off draining into Utah Lake throughout the summer, it provides outdoor ice skating during the winter months.

 

Deer Creek, Jordanelle and Strawberry reservoirs provide excellent locations for water activities both fishing and boating. The Provo River, which runs through Provo from the mouth of the canyon to Utah Lake is receiving a great deal of attention as a prime location for fly fishing. The Provo River is a world renowned blue ribbon Wild German Brown fishery. The river also holds Rainbows and Cutthroat Trout. Where the river enters Utah Lake you will find Bass, Walleye, and Channel Trout. The Provo River Trail also provides a jogging and biking trails with some of the most beautiful scenery imaginable.

 

There are many year-round opportunities to celebrate the arts in Provo.  From musical concerts and live theatre to museums and art galleries, the cultural arts are treasured in Provo.  The recently completed Covey Center for the Arts is the home of the Utah Valley Symphony.   Kenny Logins, George Winston, Utah Valley Symphony, Utah Regional Ballet,  and the Wasatch Chorale are just a few of the outstanding talent performing in the Centers 1st year.
