Slate Canyon Drive parking meeting
- Date: 01/17/2019 6:30 PM
- Location: Spring Creek Elementary
Friends and Neighbors,
This is a long overdue post. We are very sorry for the delay. The parking administrator for Provo City left at the end of the summer which has delayed the process. Thanks to all who took time to attend the neighborhood parking meetings this past summer. We had unprecedented community involvement. We are so grateful for you input and consideration. Our goal was to get your feedback regarding possible parking regulation so we could move forward accordingly. In the past the City Council has approved parking regulation in areas where a good majority of ALL residents sign a petition requesting regulation. Our meetings were well attended, but many still have not contributed. We are continuing the parking permit conversation for now only on Slate Canyon Drive where a strong majority requested it. This does not mean that we will not look at the other areas of Provost where many of you requested parking permits (460 S, 420 S, 350 S). Some of these areas had a majority of residents requesting parking regulation, but it was only a majority of those attending meetings. To accurately determine how many residents want parking regulation we would need to go door to door. This is something we discuss at a later date. Below is a summary of the resident comments we received.
Nearly 200 residents attend a series of 8 meetings this summer. Overall 50% supported parking regulation, 16% would consider it in the future, and 34% opposed parking regulation.
We found that different areas of the neighborhood had different levels of support. The homes from Center Street to 520 S. had closer to 60% of residents supporting parking regulation where the homes South of 580 only had around 40% support. Again, the area that had the strongest support for parking regulation was Slate Canyon Dr. with over 70% supporting parking regulation.
We are holding a final parking meeting for Residents and Property Owners of Slate Canyon Drive on Thursday, January 17th, 6:30 p.m. @ Spring Creek Elementary.
If the residents of Slate Canyon Drive decide to form an official petition for parking regulation on their street, we will post a link to that petition on this page so that all residents of Provost or Provost South may contribute.
Thank you all so much.
