Number of Positions: Two – Three (2-3)
Essential Duties: This is a seasonal instructor position in the Recreation Division of the Provo Parks & Recreation Department. The individual appointed to this position will be responsible for instructing youth 3-6 years of age and parents with the “Start Smart” program. The structure of the “Start Smart” program involves teaching sports skills to parent/child pairs, and helping parents practice skills with their child. Different sports will be taught each month. Additionally, employees may be required to do some court/field maintenance and perform other related work as required.
Minimum Requirements: Must commit to a minimum of four months and have experience and/or knowledge of rules associated with youth soccer, flag football/rugby, basketball, and baseball. Demonstrate an ability to teach the basics of basketball to 20-25 youth and their parents. Candidate should be pro-active, innovative and energetic. Must be able to work well with other coaches, parents, children and spectators.
Selection Factors: Intermediate knowledge of sports rules/drills and the ability to work well with and engage adults and children. Please indicate your area of expertise in the certifications section on your application.
Hours: Tues/Thurs 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM and/or Tues/Thurs 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM. Please indicate your desired shift(s) in the certifications section of your application. Exact hours depend on program participation.
Duration of Position: Program will run year-round, with a flexible schedule.
Wage: $9.00 per hour. Payment will be made by direct deposit.
Physical/Environmental Factors: This work requires the physical strength and agility to perform the work including: standing and moving around on feet for extended periods of time and minor bending and lifting; and the ability to work with the public in sometimes stressful situations.
Screening: Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job related experience. Selection may be based largely upon an oral interview. Criminal background checks are conducted on all City positions. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal.
