Storm Water Division/Public Works Department
Part-time Seasonal Position

Positions Available: Three (3)
Essential Duties: This is a laborer position in the Storm Water Division of the Provo City Public Works Department. The individual hired for this position will be required to perform the following duties: clean ditches; lay pipe; respond to storm flooding; clean river and flood control channels; pour and finish concrete; clean storm drain boxes and inlets; perform minor maintenance on pumps and pump stations; spray and burn ditch banks; and other duties relating to irrigation maintenance. Additionally, employee may be required to operate a backhoe, boom truck, jet machine, and weed burner; assist other crew members as needed/directed; and perform other related work as required.
Minimum Requirements: Applicant must have the following: any training or experience which would demonstrate an ability to perform the work; physical strength and agility; ability to follow directions and communicate with the public in a courteous manner, and a knowledge of the safe use of hand tools and equipment required by the position.
License: Valid, lawful driver's license is required at time of appointment. Applicant may be disqualified on the basis of an unacceptable driving record as reflected by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
Wage: $11.00 - $15.00 per hour depending upon skill level and experience. Payment will be made by direct deposit.
Hours: 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Duration of Position: Approximately February, 2018 to end of season.
Physical/Environmental Factors: This work requires burning weeds, bending, carrying, occasional heavy lifting, loading, digging holes, and other excavations; and exposure to adverse weather conditions, working in the river, high noise levels, and pesticides.
Screening: Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job related experience. Selection for this position may be based largely upon an oral interview. Criminal background checks are conducted on all City positions. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal.
Pre-employment Testing: Prior to appointment, applicant will be required to successfully pass a drug screening and background investigation. Individuals with unsatisfactory drug screening results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
