Part-time Seasonal Positions

Number of Positions: Fifteen (15) to twenty-five (25) positions
Essential Duties: These are basketball referees for the Provo Parks and Recreation Department. The individuals appointed to these positions will be required to referee and maintain control of adult and high school basketball games; set up basketball facilities; track game equipment; and perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements: Knowledge of basketball rules, penalties, and hand signals which would demonstrate an ability to perform the job; physical ability needed to perform the duties of the job; and excellent customer service skills. Selection Factors: Knowledge of basketball rules; ability to maintain control of teams, coaches, and players; diffuse and resolve conflict; and work effectively and courteously with the public.
Wage: Training: $7.25 per hour; Adult: $15.00 - $19.00 per hour; Youth: $9.00 - $11.00 per hour, depending on knowledge and experience. Payment will be made by direct deposit.
Hours: Variable shifts Monday through Saturday (minimum 2 weeknights + Saturdays); 6:00 PM – 11:00 PM (weeknights) and 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM (Saturdays).
Duration of Position: Approximately November 2018 through April 2019. Some referees will be invited to work summer basketball April 2019 – July 2019.
Screening: Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job-related experience, skills, knowledge, and education. Selection may be based largely upon an oral interview. Criminal background checks are conducted on all City positions. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal.
Physical/Environmental Factors: This work requires physical strength and agility to perform the work, including, minor bending, and extensive athletic ability to maintain proper positioning during game play. In addition, this position requires the ability to work with the public in potentially stressful situations.
Pre-employment Testing: Prior to appointment, applicant will be required to successfully pass a drug screening and background investigation. Individuals with unsatisfactory drug screening results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
