Essential Duties: This is hockey program coordination work at the Peaks Ice Arena for the Provo City Parks and Recreation Department. The individual appointed to this position will be required to do the following: organize, schedule, implement, and evaluate assigned hockey programs; establish rosters and/or participant lists; establish and maintain schedules including organizing events; schedule needed facilities and ensure appropriate access; monitor status and condition of program equipment; order supplies and purchase program specific materials in accordance with established budgets; track expenses; make recommendation on needed materials not covered under existing budgets; develop marketing strategies, create flyers, brochures, announcements, and various program specific marketing materials; supervise part-time staff and/or volunteers assigned to skating program; assist in the recruitment, evaluation, and training of staff; ensure adequate coverage for programs including scheduling and assigning work; ensure adherence to operational rules and procedures; evaluate assigned programs and provide feedback to supervisors: solicit information from program participants; maintain and prepare a variety of statistics and reports; assist in developing new strategies for programs including making recommendations on program changes; assist other staff members and the public as needed; and perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in recreation, physical education, or closely related field; or an equivalent combination of job-related education and experience [substituting each one year of post-secondary education/training for six months of experience]. 

License: Valid, lawful driver's license is required at time of appointment. Applicant may be disqualified on the basis of an unacceptable driving record as reflected by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.

Selection Factors: Knowledge of the process and procedures required to organize and schedule recreational, athletic, and/or special event programs for both youth and adults; needed equipment for various recreational programs; basic management and supervisory practices; laws, codes, rules and regulations governing recreation programs; policies and procedures established for the work system; the operations, functions, and terminology common to recreation programs and activities; and basic English composition, spelling, and grammar. Ability to organize a broad range of classes, special events, and recreation programs; organize leagues, tournaments, game schedules and tournament brackets; deal with the public in a pleasant, courteous, and calm manner in all circumstances; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees, administration, media representatives, other agencies and the public; prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports; implement and maintain programs for the generation of revenue; exercise independent judgment while evaluating situations and in making determinations; and enforce rules and regulations in a fair and non-confrontational manner.

Wage: $14.00 - $16.50 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Payment will be made by direct deposit.

Hours: Approximately 20-25 hours per week.

Schedule: Hours of work must be flexible enough to meet the requirements of the position and coordination with city staff and the public. Hours will be approved by the Assistant Director of Recreation or designee. Schedule may vary throughout the year depending on workload and demands for service.

Screening: Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job-related experience, skills, knowledge, and education. Selection for this position may be based largely upon an oral interview. Criminal background checks are conducted on all City positions. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal.

Pre-employment Testing: Prior to appointment, applicant will be required to successfully pass a drug screening and background investigation. Individuals with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
