Essential Duties: (Duties below reflect that of an Office Specialist I. Duties will vary for other positions.)
This is semi-skilled, routine clerical support work requiring application of general office skills within a Department of Provo City. The individual appointed to this position will be required to do the following: type and input miscellaneous data into computer; maintain files; receive and route calls; relay information; take orders for repairs and new services; type reports, forms, and other documents; make copies; operate various office machines; use a computer terminal to enter and retrieve data in several different formats; may operate radio transmitters; receive calls or greet the public; give routine information from reports and records; may handle confidential information; assist higher level clerical support staff in performance of their duties; assist other staff members as needed; may make routine mathematical calculations and assist in bookkeeping or cash handling; and perform other related work as required. Quartermaster will be required to do the following: issue equipment to officers including shotguns, radios, radar guns, etc.; and perform optical discing and other office duties as required.
Minimum Requirements: (Office Specialist I)--High school diploma or G.E.D. with some course work in the secretarial sciences; or six months experience in clerical/secretarial work, including experience in the use of word processors. (Office Specialist II)--High school diploma or G.E.D. and either one (1) year of experience as an Office Specialist I or one and one-half (1.5) years of comparable experience; or an equivalent combination of job-related education and experience substituting each one year of education/training for six months of experience. (Office Specialist III)---High school diploma or G.E.D. plus either one and one-half (1.5) years experience as an Office Specialist II or three (3) years of comparable major clerical support experience; or an equivalent combination of job-related education and experience substituting each one year of post-secondary education/training for six months of experience.
Preferences: Some positions in this class may require a minimum typing speed. Typing scores will be accepted from any service or software that provides a printed result. However, all typing skills will be subject to verification. 
License: Some positions in this class may require a valid, lawful driver's license.
Selection Factors: Knowledge of: English composition, spelling, and grammar; and the operations, functions, and terminology common to the work. Skill in: performing duties in a manner that demonstrates respect, integrity, courtesy, and kindness towards fellow workers, customers and the general public. Ability to: interpret and properly carry out general instructions; operate standard office machines and equipment including computers; and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Salary: Office Specialist I--$918- $1,266 biweekly (range 13); Office Specialist II--$1,013 - $1,396 biweekly (range 15); Office Specialist III--$1,116 - $1,539 biweekly (range 17). Salary will normally begin at the first step of the salary range for full-time positions. If the position is part-time, seasonal, or temporary, the department will determine an hourly rate between $7.25 and $19.25 an hour. Any overtime will normally be accrued as compensatory time. For full-time positions, appointment or advancement to a higher level of the series is based on the recommendation of the department director and completion of the associated requirements. If appointed directly at higher than the entry level, applicants must satisfactorily demonstrate the required proficiencies during the probationary period.]
Screening: Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job-related experience, skills, knowledge, and education and type of employment desired. Criminal background checks are conducted on all City positions. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. 
Physical/Environmental Factors: This work requires standing at a counter or sitting at a desk or computer terminal for extended periods of time. Work location is inside with little or no occupational hazards present. Some positions may include exposure to high-stress situations or environments, including, contact with the public in confrontational or uncomfortable circumstances. Note: Employees of this class may be subject to on-call status.
Pre-Employment Testing: Prior to appointment, applicant will be required to successfully pass a drug screening and background investigation. Individuals with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
