Essential Duties: The Provo City Recreation Department is looking for a cooking class instructor to teach cooking classes in the community. We are specifically looking for a teacher who can teach a variety of cultural cooking classes to students. The individual appointed to this position will be required to perform the following duties: creating the program schedule of meals and lessons, promoting the program, setting up and cleaning up materials for students, tracking attendance, instructing students of varying levels, and evaluating program success for future modification. Must provide energetic and informative classes and display a positive, upbeat attitude for community members.

Minimum Requirements: Must have knowledge of varying styles of cooking, thorough knowledge of various forms of food preparation, current trends and equipment, ability to plan and budget for classes, as well as the capability required to perform the duties of the job. Preference will be given to applicants with previous culinary and teaching experience and the desire to work with varying demographics.

Wage: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour, depending upon experience and certifications. Payment will be by direct deposit.

Schedule: Coverage currently needed on occasional Friday and Saturday evenings. Schedule is flexible based on department need and is subject to change.

Selection Factors: Knowledge of teaching, cooking, job-related experience, and public relations skills. ***PLEASE STATE YOUR SPECIFIC RECREATION KNOWLEDGE IN THE JOB/SKILLS CERTIFICATION SECTION ON THE JOB APPLICATION.***

Screening: Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job-related experience, skills, knowledge, and education. Selection may be based largely upon an oral interview. Criminal background checks are conducted on all City positions. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal.

Physical/Environmental Factors: This work requires knowledge and physical strength and agility to perform the work including two to four hours of cooking instruction per week and other varied physical activities associated with performing the essential duties.
