Number of Positions: Fourteen (14) to Eighteen (18)
Essential Duties: These positions are Jr. Baseball Site Supervisors, Umpires, and Scorekeepers in the Provo Parks and Recreation Department. The appointed applicants may be required to: (a) supervise Jr. Baseball games at Fort Utah and Sunset View Park ballfields; perform some minor field preparation; and control the overall facility; (b) umpire baseball games; and (c) keep score and assist in the administration of games. Additionally, employees will be required to assist office staff as needed and perform other related duties.
Minimum Requirements: Umpires/Scorekeepers: Knowledge of baseball rules, penalties, and hand signals which would demonstrate an ability to perform the job; and physical ability needed to perform the duties of the job. Site Supervisors: organizational skills, punctuality, and an ability to oversee umpires, coaches, and spectators at the field. ***Please list your job preference and sports experience in the certifications section of the application.***
Selection Factors: Knowledge of applicable baseball rules, job-related experience, and public relations skills. Skill in performing duties in a manner that demonstrates respect, integrity, courtesy, and kindness towards fellow workers, customers, and the general public. Ability to maintain control of teams, coaches, and players; and resolve conflict.
Hours: Weeknights 4:30 PM - 10:00 PM and occasional Saturdays. Schedule may vary depending on department need.
Wage: Scorekeepers: $7.50 per hour. Umpires: $10.00 - $13.00 per hour. Site Supervisors: $10.00 - $13.00 per hour. Wage is determined by the duties performed and level of knowledge, skill, and/or experience. Payment will be made by direct deposit.
Duration of Position: Approximately April 8 to July 20, 2019. Training will take place in early April, 2019.
Screening: Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job-related experience, skills, knowledge, and education. Selection may be based largely upon an oral interview. Criminal background checks are conducted on all City positions. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal.
Physical/Environmental Factors: This work requires physical strength and agility to perform the work including: minor bending and lifting; the ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions; and working with the public in sometimes stressful situations.
