Part-time Seasonal Position

Essential Duties: This is a laborer position in the Energy Department of Provo City Corporation. The individual appointed to this position will be required to perform the following duties: pick up and carry cuttings, debris, and litter; safely use hand tools including shovels, brooms, rakes, picks, wheelbarrows, etc.; operate varied power tools and equipment including power saws; operate vehicles, including, dump trucks, packer trucks, etc.; assist in cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment; load job order equipment onto trucks; drive trucks to and from work sites; empty truck loads as directed; and assist other crew members as needed by handing out tools and equipment or setting out flags and cones for work site safety. Additionally, employee will be required to perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements: Any training or experience which would demonstrate an ability to perform the work and strength and agility enough to perform the work.
License: Valid, lawful driver's license is required at time of appointment. Applicant may be disqualified on the basis of an unacceptable driving record as reflected by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
Selection Factors: Knowledge of and skill in the use of hand and power tools as required by the position. Ability to do the following: follow specific and general instructions; read and comprehend the English language; handle the public in a courteous and pleasant manner; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
Salary: $13.00 per hour. Payment will be made by direct deposit.
Screening: Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job-related experience, skills, knowledge, and education. Criminal background checks are conducted on all City positions. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal.
Physical/Environmental Factors: This work requires bending, carrying, heavy lifting, loading, digging trenches, holes, and other excavations and may require periodic exposure to adverse weather conditions, high noise levels, heavy traffic, moving or standing water, and high voltage.
Pre-employment Testing: Prior to appointment, applicant will be required to successfully pass a drug screening and background investigation. Individuals with unsatisfactory drug screening results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
