Essential Duties: This position oversees the senior (60+) Congregate Meal Program and the planning and preparation of special senior meals. The individual appointed to this position will be required to perform the following duties: supervise daily congregate meal operations; monitor food deliveries and proper transference of food items; plan and prepare special meals as directed; inventory and order necessary supplies and monitor the use of supplies; coordinate planning and purchases for special events; submit invoices and receipts in a timely manner; recruit, train and supervise kitchen volunteers (assign duties, serving and clean up, record hours worked); maintain all health, safety and sanitation standards as directed by the Health Department; observe Provo City Recreation Center policies and procedures; maintain proper cleanliness of kitchen, dining room tables and settings; ensure proper use and maintenance of kitchen equipment and supplies; show interest in and communicate with meal participants; and perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements: Two years of experience in the food service industry. Experience supervising other employees is preferred.
Wage: $9.00 - $13.74 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Payment will be made by direct deposit.
Special Requirements: Must possess a valid Utah County Food Handlers Permit or be able to obtain within one week of hire. Must also obtain Food Safety manager’s certification within six months of hire.
Schedule: 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM Monday through Friday, with other hours as needed.
Selection Factors: Thorough knowledge of meal planning, preparation, and kitchen operations in an institutional setting, and knowledge of sanitation and safety precautions common to the food service trade. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, read and comprehend the English language, communicate with the public in a courteous and pleasant manner; and establish effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, volunteers, and the public.
Screening: Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job-related experience, skills, knowledge, and education. Criminal background checks are conducted on all City positions. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal.
Physical/Environmental Factors: This work requires physical strength and agility to perform the work including: lifting pans and food containers up to 30 pounds, and frequent bending, stooping and reaching. Considerable standing and walking is also required.
