Part-Time Seasonal Position

Essential Duties: This is an intern position in the Parks Projects Division of the Provo City Parks and Recreation Department. The individual appointed to this position will be required to assist the Parks Project Manager by performing the following duties: learning project management techniques, processing contracts, preparing landscape and irrigation plans for park projects, coordinating Eagle Scout projects, completing grant research and application preparation, contributing creatively to newsletter and web content; applying and developing skills in public relations, graphic design, research, writing, and/or other areas; working in a team setting that encourages input and ensures feedback; enjoying valuable experience working with various agencies in Provo and Utah County; and performing other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements: Bona fide student in Parks and Recreation or a related field. One year of general job-related experience is desired.

License: Valid, lawful driver’s license is required at time of appointment. Applicant may be disqualified on the basis of an unacceptable driving record as reflected by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.

Selection Factors: Knowledge of: the operations performed and purposes served by the department or division wherein the position lies; and the operations, functions, and terminology common to the work. Ability to: understand and follow oral and written instructions; work with speed and accuracy in a courteous manner when dealing with the public; effectively communicate orally and in writing; interact effectively with co-workers and the public; be self-motivated and exercise sound judgment; and work independently.

Schedule/Duration: Approximately 10 to 15 hours per week during the school year and 40 hours per week during the summer.

Wage: $12.00 to $15.00 per hour. Payment will be made by direct deposit.

Screening: Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job-related experience, skills, knowledge, and education. Selection may be based largely upon an oral interview. Criminal background checks are conducted on all City positions. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal.

Physical/Environmental Factors: This work requires: light to medium lifting; agility to perform the work; and regularly operating equipment for extended periods of time; and exposure to adverse weather conditions, hazardous conditions, odors, dust, noise, and heavy traffic. May involve stressful circumstances including interactions with the public in negative situations.

Pre-employment Testing:
Prior to appointment, applicant will be required to successfully pass a drug screening and background investigation. Individuals with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
