Part-time Regular Position

Positions Available: Two

Essential Duties: This is a position providing clerical support work in the Provo City Police Department. The individual appointed to this position will be required to perform the following duties: assist in filing records; issue equipment to officers including weapons, radios, etc.; assist with found property and impound property and other office and related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or G.E.D. with some course work in the secretarial sciences; or six months experience in clerical/secretarial work, including experience in the use of word processing programs. Preference may be given to applicants with computer and clerical experience.

License: Valid, lawful driver's license will be required at time of appointment. Applicant may be disqualified on the basis of an unacceptable driving record as reflected by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.

Wage: $12.00 per hour. Payment will be made by direct deposit.

Hours/Schedule: Day Shift: Twenty-five (25) hours per week, Monday through Friday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Exact schedule has some flexibility and will be discussed in the interview. Some holiday work may be required. Swing Shift: Twenty-five (25) hours per week, Tuesday through Friday from 6:00 PM to 10:30 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Exact schedule has some flexibility and will be discussed in the interview. Some holiday work may be required.

Selection Factors: Knowledge of basic English composition, spelling, and grammar; and the operations, functions, and terminology common to the work. Ability to deal with the officers and the public in a pleasant, courteous, and calm manner in all circumstances; interpret and properly carry out general instructions; operate standard office machines and equipment including computers; and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Screening: Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job-related experience, skills, knowledge, and education. Selection may be based largely upon an oral interview. Criminal background checks are conducted on all City positions. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal.

Pre-employment Testing: Prior to appointment, applicant will be required to successfully pass a drug screening and background investigation. Individuals with unsatisfactory drug screening results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.

Physical/Environmental Factors: This work requires standing at a counter or sitting at a desk or computer terminal for extended periods of time; lifting up to 30 lbs., and stooping, bending, and reaching. Work location is normally inside with some outdoor work necessary with little or no occupational hazards present. Some positions may include exposure to high-stress situations or environments, including, contact with the public in confrontational or uncomfortable circumstances and the issuing of weapons to officers. Note: Employees of this class may be subject to on-call status.
