Pay Rate: $17.14 - $30.16 per hour, depending on experience

Provo City is looking for an Automotive Technician/Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) with responsibility to diagnose and repair various vehicles, equipment, and accompanying systems. Description: This position may perform the following duties: diagnose and perform major and minor engine repairs on both light and heavy equipment, including inspecting/replacing broken or worn parts; inspect, diagnose, repair, rebuild, troubleshoot, clean, adjust, and install electrical, cooling, heating, steering, fuel, hydraulics, and ignition systems; repair, clean, and rebuild engines; repair and replace a variety of automotive parts; repair vehicle body and chassis parts; diagnose and repair vehicle suspension issues; install, wire, and place emergency lighting and other equipment in first responder vehicles and equipment; recommend proper repair or replacement methods; use and interpret readings of electronic testing equipment; respond to road calls and perform emergency field repairs; assist in EVT repairs; perform and inspect scheduled preventive maintenance work on diesel and gasoline vehicles, tractors, mowers, generators and other equipment; check and replenish fluid levels; inspect, diagnose, and repair hydraulic and air brakes; perform general tune-ups; clean vehicles; prepare new vehicles and equipment for service and strip old vehicles for salvage; perform tire inspections; rotate, mount and balance tires for vehicles and equipment; perform vehicle safety inspections in accordance with relevant laws; road test vehicles and equipment; maintain a variety of records and logs; order parts and supplies; provide training on safety, repair, and vehicle operation; may assist supervisor in personnel issues and performance appraisals; function as supervisor in his/her absence; and perform other duties as needed. 

Minimum Requirements: At all levels, equivalent to a high school diploma is required. Auto Tech I: One year of experience in repair and maintenance of automotive, truck, and heavy equipment. Auto Tech II: Three years of experience in repair and maintenance of automotive, truck, and heavy equipment. Auto Tech III: Five years of experience in repair and maintenance of automotive, truck, and heavy equipment. EVT: Six years of experience in repair and maintenance of automotive, truck, and heavy equipment. At all levels, equivalent combinations of education or experience may be considered. A valid Utah CDL with air brakes endorsement is required. Auto Tech II & III: Must obtain Utah Vehicle Inspector’s certificate and Utah County Vehicle Emissions Inspector’s certificate. EVT: Must obtain required certifications of lower levels and valid ASE Master or EVT Certification. Requires a minimum of one valid ASE certification in Automotive or Diesel Technology or Fleet Manager approved equivalency.
