RECREATION COORDINATOR (SPORTS)
Parks and Recreation Department
Part Time Regular Position 

Essential Duties: This is entry level professional work responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing recreational, athletic, and/or special event programs. The individual appointed to this position will be required to perform the following duties: organize, schedule, implement, and evaluate assigned recreational, athletic, and/or special event programs; establish rosters and/or participant lists; establish and maintain schedules including organizing tournaments; schedule needed facilities and ensure appropriate access; monitor status and condition of program equipment; order supplies and purchase program specific materials in accordance with established budgets; track expenses; make recommendations on needed materials not covered under existing budgets; develop marketing strategies under the direction of a supervisor; create flyers, brochures, announcements, and various program specific marketing materials; supervise part-time staff and/or volunteers assigned to specific programs; assist in the recruitment, evaluation, and training of staff; ensure adequate coverage for programs including scheduling and assigning work; ensure adherence to operational rules and procedures; ensure that part-time staff and/or volunteers understand, communicate, and enforce the rules and regulations of the assigned program; identify and report performance issues to the supervisor; evaluate assigned programs and provide informational feedback to supervisors regarding level of participation and program effectiveness compared to program costs; solicit information from program participants; maintain and prepare a variety of statistics and reports; assist in developing new strategies for programs including making recommendations on program changes; assist other staff members and the public as needed, and perform other related duties as assigned. 

Minimum Requirements: One year of post-secondary training in Recreation or one year experience in Recreation programming. 

License: Valid, lawful driver’s license is required at time of appointment. Applicant may be disqualified on the basis of an unacceptable driving record as reflected by the State Department of Motor Vehicles. 

Selection Factors: Knowledge of the process and procedures required to organize and schedule recreational, athletic, and/or special event programs for both youth and adults; needed equipment for various recreational programs; basic management and supervisory practices; the operations, functions, and terminology common to recreation programs and activities; and basic English composition, spelling, and grammar. Skill in performing duties in a manner that demonstrates respect, integrity, courtesy, and kindness towards fellow workers, customers, and the general public. Ability to organize a broad range of classes, special events, and recreation programs; organize leagues, tournaments, game schedules and tournament brackets; analyze the value and cost effectiveness of activities; develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees, administration, media representatives, other agencies and the public; prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports; implement and maintain programs for the generation of revenue; exercise independent judgment while evaluating situations and in making determinations; and enforce rules and regulations in a fair and non-confrontational manner. 

Wage: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Payment will be made by direct deposit. 

Schedule: This position will require evening and Saturday work and a 15-20 hour per week work schedule. Flexible schedule is based on department need. 

Screening: Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job-related experience, skills, knowledge, and education; and review of application. Selection may be based largely upon an oral interview. Criminal background checks are conducted on all City positions. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. 

Physical/Environmental Factors: Office work and outdoor recreation work with some exposure to adverse weather conditions. May include exposure to high-stress situations or environments, including contact with the public in confrontational or uncomfortable circumstances and some lifting of heavy objects and boxes. 

Pre-employment Testing: Prior to appointment, applicant will be required to successfully pass a drug screening and background investigation. Individuals with unsatisfactory drug screening results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six months.
