Referendum 2020

Post Date:03/17/2020 3:40 PM
On February 18, 2020, the Provo Municipal Council approved Ordinance 2020-03, which amends Provo City Code to allow microbrewing as a permitted use in certain zones if it occurs in a restaurant.

On February 20, 2020, some citizens of Provo City filed a referendum application seeking to have that law referred to to voters for their approval or disapproval at a future election.

In order for the law to be placed on the ballot of an upcoming election, sponsors of the referendum are required to collect signatures from 15% of the number of active voters in at least 75% of the Council Districts. As of February 20, 2020, there are 41,346 active voters in Provo City.

The process for a referendum is outlined in Utah Code Title 20A Chapter 7Part 4 and Part 6 . Additional information about the process can be found here
