Referendum 2020

Referendum 2020
On April 14, 2020, the Provo Municipal Council approved Ordinance 2020-13, which amends Provo City Code to create a Class "F" beer license for restaurants with ancillary breweries.

On April 16, 2020, some citizens of Provo City filed a referendum application seeking to have that law referred to voters for their approval or disapproval at a future election.

In order for the law to be placed on the ballot of an upcoming election, sponsors of the referendum are required to collect signatures from 7.5% of the number of active voters in at least 75% of the Council Districts. As of April 16, 2020, there are 42,097 active voters in Provo City.

The process for a referendum is outlined in Utah Code Title 20A Chapter 7, Part 4 and Part 6 . Additional information about the process can be found here. Recently, Governor Gary Herbert passed Executive Order No. 2020-14 which allows for remote signature gathering for local referenda.
